31-650S - Class 47 47975

Originally introduced as D1723 at Bristol Bath Road Depot on 17th March 1964, the locomotive had a long service history serving at various depots that included Bescot, Cardiff, Bristol, Tinsley, Crewe, Landore & Old Oak Common depots followed by service later in the BR Departmental Test Track & Central Services Research fleets. In November 1974 the boiler was removed to convert the locomotive to electric train heating on mainline operations carrying the running number 47540, a number it would return to later in its operational life. The locomotive as seen in its BR Engineers 'Dutch' livery was named without ceremony at Old Oak Common Depot in November 1991 which it carried until December 1995 when it reverted to 47540. Withdrawn from service in November 2002, it currently rests at the Wensleydale Railway, having been moved several times whilst in storage since its final withdrawal.
